hi
I've nat adapter and host-only adapter. host is Windows 7, guest is Ubuntu 10.10.
how can i access samba shares?
i could use bridge instead of nat and i had no problem. i could handle samba shares with ease. but now I HAVE TO SWITCH TO NAT. so please don't suggest to still use bridge. is it possible to access samba shares via host-only adapter? is yes, how?
i've heard that i CAN'T access samba shares via nat, is it right?
but it's not a problem to use host-only adapter or Internal Network as well as nat.
also let me know what's the difference between Internal Network and host-only. i just need a way to access guest via host.
anxiously wait for any useful reply.
thx

As I explained in your previous post, yes it is possible to use samba with host-only to access the guest. Setting samba up is not in the scope of this forum and you should consult the Ubuntu forum on how to do this.

As for the difference in adapter modes they are explained in your VirtualBox users manual. See Chapter 6

There's nothing special about using host-only network connection for Samba. I've been using that for years. Host-only network provides an IP address for the guest, you use that IP as the Samba server's address, the rest is just Samba. If that is not working then perhaps you are experiencing the problem that I am, that is: host-only connectivity not there at all. If so, Samba not working would be just a side effect.

Please find my post titled: "Host-only, no access, Win7 host, Linux guests, VB 4.2.4, 64b" (I am not allowed to post URLs, yet)

Make the guest bridged - if you can see the samba shares, then you know it's a host-only problem.

As to Samba, the docs are pretty good.

I am surprised you did not get help in the forums, perhaps you did not explain the situation very well.
