Do you have a router in your LAN?
Also the ifconfig shows eth3 which usually indicates several failed attempts and MAC changes.
To fix that and return to eth0 edit the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules or you can delete the rules and Linux will configure it on the next boot

hey perry, really appreciate all your help,

i deleted all the rules and also got the connection to eth0, but I am still unable to access the internet, what can be the reason?

and yes i don't have a router (I have a direct wireline broadband connection)

dipen@dipen-v:~$ ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 08:00:27:7f:24:e8
inet addr:192.168.0.128 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

You need to determine where it is failing.
Can you ping the gateway (the router address) from the guest?
Is it a DNS issue?
Ping yahoo.com & 98.139.183.24 and see if either replies.

What about the host firewall? Has it been set to allow this, and some Virus software could cause this.

Here we are:

when i try to ping yahoo i get the same result: Unknown host

dipen@dipen-v:~$ ping 98.139.183.24

From 192.168.1.1 icmp_seq=2 Destination Net Unreachable

This is my Host IP address:

dipen@dipen-v:~$ ping 192.168.0.115

here is the port summary:

with this I believe the default ubuntu firewall is disabled:

root@dipen-v:/home/dipen# sudo ufw status
Status: inactive
root@dipen-v:/home/dipen#

So no router. Where is the gateway address coming from then.

Bridged networking will require some kind of routing.

Have you tried NAT?

NAT is working perfectly well,

The problem is with Bridged network,

how to check the gateway address - you are talking about ,
also did you find any problems with the Host firewall settings ???

One thing at a time. If you do not have a router to handle the different addresses Bridged is not going to work.
What is it you are trying to achieve?

I have to deploy openstack on the ubuntu VM,
upto my knowledge openstack requires Linux bridged connections, and does not work with NAT network connection.

once I am able to access the internet through the bridged network on the guest VM, that network in-turn will be divided in all the VMs created using openstack.

Please suggest me as to what i should do.

The best approach is to buy a cheap router. You might be able to use software routing, but this is now outside the scope of this forum since you would have the exact same issue on a normal LAN (on metal).
