So here is what I am trying to do. I am trying to use virtual box with windows 7 installed, in order to install steam and run a game on a second monitor that is controlled by a XBOX 360 controller, or by the standard keyboard and mouse - but ideally the XBox 360 controller.

I am doing this in order to run split screen - so I need to find a way to make so I can have the virtual box still receive inputs from the controller while it is in the background. Any ideas?
