VirtualBox 4.0.6 on Mac OS 10.8.2 problem

Post by benedicto »

Hey guys,
I've got VirtualBox 4.0.6 and updated my Mac OS to 10.8.2 yesterday.
Now I get the message that I cannot use 4.0.6 with my Mac OS anymore and I can't update. Now, if I install the newest version of VirtualBox will all my settings be lost? Is there any way I can update just to the new version and keep my old settings?
Thanks a lot!!

Updating should not do anything to your VM guest or the settings. It would just update the VirtualBox application and the drivers (kexts). The operative word here is "should", There have been some (rare) reports of updates mangling the settings file. The best tack would be to backup the VM guest and the settings before you update.

Thank you very much for the quick reply.
THe only thing is that there is no "Update" function as I can't even start VirtualBox. So should I just install the new version without removing the "old" VirtualBox first? I'll do a time machine backup before of course

Download the latest version of VB and use the Uninstall tool to uninstall the old version, then install the new one.
