Best Settings for Win7 on rMBP Mountain Lion?

Post by Benjamin Hill »

There are a lot of settings possible for running Windows 7 on a OSX host.
VB 4.2.4, Latest Win7 32b, latest OSX

VB Settings:
1. Enable 3D acceleration
2. Enable 2D video acceleration
3. Amount of Video Memory

Then when you install the Virtual Box Guest Additions, you get the strangest series of questions:
Enable Direct3D Support?

which asks you "This system supports the Windows Aero WDDM interface. Would you like to install Basic Direct3D support instead" - which is a backwards way of asking it, because if you say Yes you get the basic support, instead of the WDDM support.

I hear that with Win7 and Direct3D support, Aero can actually be faster because it uses the graphics card...

SO... what is the best combination of options to get Windows running smoothly?
