Excessive Page Faults / Guest very slow

Hi,
Im running VirtualBox-4.1.22-80657-Win with guest OS OpenSUSE 12 x86_64. The VBox should utilize 4G (out of 16G physical) - unfortunately the vbox process doesnt take more than ~100MB of memory and produces ~2000 page faults per second. This makes the guest (and the rest of my PC) very slow. A couple weeks ago everything worked normally. The host runs win 7 x64... What should I do to make vbox normal again?

It's really the VM log we need to see, not the service log. The VM log file is called "VBox.log", and can be found in the "Logs" subfolder of your VM folder.

Also, post it as .zip attachment please.

Tell us what exactly you changed in those couple of weeks...

I cant think of anything significant - there may have been some OS updates on both sides, but unfortunatelly I do not keep track of these.
I saw this first time yesterday when I updated to ver 4.2.4, when I started the guest I saw this problem but using zipper I managed to find out that available guest-side addons are at ver. 4.1.22 so I installed back the 4.1.22 but the behavior remained the same.

It's a rather boring log - the VM only ran for 13 minutes - though the following lines are somewhat concerning :-
VBox.log wrote: 00:02:34.235 Display::handleDisplayResize(): uScreenId = 0, pvVRAM=000000000e7a0000 w=640 h=480 bpp=32 cbLine=0xA00, flags=0x1
00:03:09.191 AHCI#0: Read at offset 37308575744 (69632 bytes left) returned rc=VERR_UNRESOLVED_ERROR
00:13:59.172 Changing the VM state from 'RUNNING' to 'SUSPENDING'.
The middle line looks awfully like a SATA hard disk error to me. You might want to run some disk checks on your hosts hard disk (whatever disk this VM is located on).

Oh, you are right - I will have to run disk check tonight. Thank you.
