Hello

I try to get working HP Pavilion Integrated Webcam on guest Ubuntu. Here my spec:

Host: Windows 7 Professional 64bit (7601) SP1 (up-to-date)
Oracle Virtual Box 4.2.4. r81684 + Oracle Virtual Box Extenstion Pack 4.2.4. r81684 (seems up-to-date)

Guest: Ubuntu 64bit 12.04 LTS + VboxGuestAdditions installed + USB 2.0 Ehci Controller Enabled

a try also added some filters and filtered the Webcam... still getting error message as device is busy.

Can you help me with this?
Is any way to get integrated webcam working on guest machine?

thx for advice

PS: I was doing some research on google, but there post are out-dated with year 2008 etc., and solution still not help me.

Google for "busy with a previous request" site:forums.virtualbox.org. Your question has been asked and answered too many times already.

thx for reply, but i need to say there is no clear solution to this problem and problem is NOT generally solved.
in this search query there are just random occasion when suddenly error message didnt show up.

ok so lets summarize so:
I tryed:

1. there is no USB3 in my pc, so there is no problem with USB2/USB3 compatiblity
2. this is integrated module - cant switch it to other port
3. usb filter with/without EHCI 2.0 support - same error
4. same error appears without enabling usbfilter
5. Solution: For some USB devices, in the USB filter leaving the Revision field blank/empty works / not working
6. killing VBOXSVC.exe and other clever ideas not working
7. there is no upperfilter entry in my registry linked to usb, so its already deleted
8. AMD USB controller not present in my system
9. no usbfilter string in my registry, no file: %system32%\drivers\usbfilter.sys. in my system

do u have some advanced ideas?

thx for ur time.

// appreciate your advice, but its integrated usb web cam module, cant be pull out from pc, without disassembling whole device

Try these steps :

1. turn off your host
2. unplug your USB device
3. turn on your host
4. wait for boot
5. Start your VM
6. once your VM is fully started and ready, plug your USB device
7. Should work

The main steps are:
  • Make sure USB support is installed with VirtualBox, and USB (and USB 2.0) is enabled in the VM recipe.
  • Again in the VM recipe, create a USB filter to match the device. A blank filter if you must, a specific filter is less likely to grab the wrong device.
  • Plug the device in after the guest has finished booting up.
  • On first use, allow VirtualBox to install the matching USB direction filter, then unplug and re-plug in the device.

I'm not a Windows expert.
Can the OPs "Integrated" (built in) Web Cam be unplugged/replugged?
Is there a way to do that using the Windows Device Manager?

I am not sure if that would work like that, but it is worth giving it a try, unless mpack says otherwise.

If you want to try :
  • turn off your guest
  • go into your Windows Device Manager
  • delete the webcam from the list by uninstalling it
  • turn on your guest fully
  • Detect new hardware within the Windows Device Manager

every solution with plug/unplug integrated device is wrong, (cant disassemble whole device whenever it happens.)

soft plug/unplug over device manager is working, device is unpluged but instantly device manager found new HW and install it back, without manually request to searching new HW.

virtual box dont detect a HW changes and still after unnistaling over device manager shows WebCam as available USB device cause of auto search new HW described above.

device still busy.

I wasn't sure it would work, but was worth the try...

The procedure I gave earlier is the only reliable way I know to be sure to get a USB device to be recognized. If mechanical considerations prevent that procedure being followed... well that's a shame, but it doesn't really change anything. The Device|USB thing done while the VM is running, I've never had much luck with - I suspect it'll only work if the reliable procedure has previously been followed, i.e. meaning that the redirection filter driver has been installed.
