Setup Wizard Ended Prematurely

Post by Filarono »

Hi,

I have some problems installing the latest version of VBox. The Wizard says "Setup Wizard Ended Prematurely because of an error"

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 on an Intel Pentium 4 3.20 Ghz

Can someone help me? Thank you!

A P4? How much free RAM left?

Yes, it's an Intel Pentium 4 @ 3.20 Ghz. RAM is 2 GB and is enough.

2GB enough to run Win7, VBox on top of that, and a VM on top of that? ... Perhaps. With only one core and no VT-x it isn't the first host OS or CPU I would choose. You didn't answer my question about how much free RAM you have left (the task manager might tell you). Also, is the host OS 32bit or 64bit?

You might also check disk space, and be sure to run the installer as administrator, because it needs to install a few device drivers (e.g. for USB and network redirection).

RAM
Free 600 MB
Available 880 MB

Disk space available 31 GB

I've tried to clean registry with TuneUp, with no success.
I've tried to run it as admin, with no success.

It's a problem of the VB setup because a few years ago I've used VB on the same computer without any problems.

Requirements changed since then I would believe...

Maybe try to install an older version and see how that works out?

I don't want to install an old version...

IMHO the problem is with installer because everything goes fine (installation is validated, files are copied, etc.) until the progress bar is at about 90%, then the problem occurs

I was suggesting an old version to try if your hardware would be better supported as new version would rely on newer hardware and might fail with old.

The other option would be to create a log of the installation, but I have no idea where it is saved, even with the correct switch... Maybe a moderator could help with that point?

Buy more RAM and a bigger hard disk. Tools like TuneUP does not help, they need more Space and Power then its able to free. Its like "Snake Oil".

I've tried to unpack the installer using VirtualBox Portable tool and it worked.
Now I'm trying to install Windows 8 in VB, but there's another problem: My CPU does not support NX and Windows 8 requires it

Someone knows a workaround for this?

You can forget running Windows 8 on that hardware. The workaround is to get newer host hardware or an older guest OS.

Ok, but on this computer I'm running Windows 7. Why can't I run 8?

I guess Windows 7 doesn't require NX, so you can run it.

But if Windows 8 requires NX, and your CPU doesn't have it, nothing can be done...

I have the same issue.
Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1
Core i7 CPU
16GB Ram - 12GB free
750GB hdd - 526GB Free

I get the same symptoms. I can install 4.1 successfully, but not 4.2 anything.

Please help.

If you have the same problem then the same answer applies.
