COM1 Does Not Show Up on Guest Machine

Post by eberlinusa »

I am using a Windows 7 64 bit host on a Dell Precision T3500 machine. My guest OS is Windows 7 32 bit. The host machine has a COM1 enabled as well as Com 5, 50 and 61. Of course I only expect to see COM1 on the guest OS but only see LPT1 in device manager. What could be causing this problem?

Serial ports are not enabled by default in VirtualBox and you need to enable them to be able to use them in the guest.
See your manual for details. Here is a link to the online version. http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch03.html#serialports
