Common User Does Not Access Virtual Machine

Post by scmp »

Hello,
I installed Virtualbox (4.2.4) on a Windows XP SP3 x32 as admin user (total power) and within
 Edit:
Virtualbox created a virtual machine with Windows XP SP3. User as administrator (full power) access to virtual machine (Windows XP SP3) without problems. The problem happens when I access the virtual machine as another user (limited powers), the virtualbox opens and shows no virtual machine installed. What can I do for the common user (limited powers) can use the virtual machine (Windows XP SP3)?
Thanks for any help.

I don't follow what you are saying. How do you "access the virtual machine as another user"? You can only access a virtual machine if it is already running. Do you mean that you open VirtualBox as another user?

The user must have full access to the VirtualBox files to use VirtualBox. The user will either have to run win Admin privilege, or you will have to give the user full access to the necessary files (or reinstall VirtualBox when logged on as the other user).

I would also like to point out that I detect a confusion between administrator permission and the "Admin" user account. VMs are typically stored in the documents folder assigned to a particular user account. Hence a different user would have a different default folder. The privilege level of the user account is not the most important aspect, and the account name (e.g. admin) isn't important at all.

Hi BillG
I installed Virtualbox as user administrator with virtual machine windows xp, and I wish others could use the virtual machine windows xp via the user installed virtual administrator. The other users can open the Virtualbox, but do not find the virtual machine windows xp.
