Host only network adapter kills all other access to host

I have a Vista box running on a standard NAT setup along with many other machines on the 10.1.1:24 network. After installing VirtualBox to do some linux webserver development on my machine I found that I was no longer able to connect to my machine from the other machines on the 10.1.1:24 network (no connection at all, not even ping) though my machine was able to connect to the VM via the forwarded port (8080 -> 80). I have tracked this down to the presence of the "VirtualBox Host-Only Network" adapter. If I disable this adapter then other machines on the 10.1.1:24 network can talk to me again.

The linux VM is set to use 192.168.33.11

Is this a known problem? I have searched around and can find no info relating to this problem and it has both myself and my network admin really confused. I really need other people to be able to connect to my machine while I am working on this linux stuff.

Thanks,

I'm no help to you but to say you are not alone. The same thing happened to my Windows 7 machine - I sporadically lost all internet access after installing Virtual Box. Disabling VIRTUAL BOX HOST-ONLY ETHERNET ADAPTOR seems of have fixed it for me too.

I have the same problem. As long as I have virtualbox client running it disturbs host lan/web access.
Virtualbox 4.2.4 Client:WinXP Host:WinXP
