Port Forwarding

Post by drazen »

hello all,

i have a windows7 host and a ubuntu12 guest with a NAT adapter and a host-only adapter. i run an apache2 on the guest and i want somebody to have access to my website on teh guest from outside. of course, my host has access to the site either by its original ip (<guest ip>) or by port forwarding (<hostip>:8080). but i cannot access it from any other pc (lets say from a friends pc).

Is it possible or not? how can the friend pc access my site??

I doubt this is a question about VBox, but I'll give a quick answer to help you get started.

Is this friend's PC on you network (LAN) or somewhere else on the Internet? (WAN).

If LAN, check your host's firewall settings.
If WAN, check your router settings and host's firewall settings.
Most likely you need to tell your router to open port 8080 (or some other port of your choosing) and forward that to your host PC's port 8080 (which will then forward it to the guest).

Warning: make sure you understand the implications of changing these settings.
