DNS Setting issue

Post by Charlie »

Hi,

I am using Oracle VM Virtualbox 4.2.0 and have created Domain using AD in Windows Server 2008 R2. While creating domain I have used dcpromo and there were 2 network adapters - NAT (for internet) and interal network. DNS was configured on its own as part of wizard. Later I thought of creating another VM and add that OS (Windows XP) to domain.

As I am not from Windows Administration background faced some issue but finally was able to add the Windows XP into same domain. (deleted both forward lookup zone created by wizard and created new forward and reverse lookup zone in DNS tool)

What I found is the DNS Server setting was all created or used under NAT network adapter and hence I was not able to do nslookup on XP machine. So now I have to disable NAT adapter in order to work out only with interal network for DNS to work properly. I have configured static IP on Windows 2008 R2 and XP machine under internal network and it works fine. However, when I enable NAT for internet, DNS server name is overridden which is seen in nslookup output.

Is there any way I can remove the DNS Setting from NAT (AD or virtualbox) and use DNS setting from internal network permanently along with NAT adapter? Hope you understand what I am trying to explain and ask :-)
