I am using a Lenovo Z580 laptop running a 64-bit Windows 7 OS. I recently downloaded and installed Virtual Box 4.2.0 (32-bit - Recommended). Installation was fine. Then I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 and started installing the OS, but it failed stating that Virtual box has stopped working and asked me to either debug or post the logs in the community. I am attaching the logs in this post. I have used Virtual Box and Ubuntu earlier on Dell Latitude laptops on Windows 7 host OS, but this is not working on the Lenovo laptop.

PS: I have disabled Hardware Visualization Enable VT-x/AMD-V as I was getting another error. I checked the online forum and disabled it.

First re-enable hardware virtualization in your bios and leave VT-x/AMD-v enabled in the guests.
Is the Ubuntu you downloaded 32 or 64 bit?

How do I re-enable hardware virtualization in your bios ? The Ubuntu I downloaded was a 32-bit one.

If you did as you say you already know how to enable Hardware Virtualization. If not you need to explain it better.

Normally all you need to do is create the new guest and select the OS or the OS-64. In this case it would be Ubuntu and not Ubuntu-64. The rest of the values will be filled in to their defaults.

Do this and then see if you improve.

I thought enabling hardware visualization and enabling VT-x/AMD-v are two different things (I hope my understanding is correct now). Now I have enabled VT-x/AMD-v before launching Ubuntu installation. As soon I start the guest OS, I get the below error message

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Ubuntu
VT-x feature locked or unavailable in MSR...
....

OK so you do need to enable hardware virtualization in your BIOS. See your PCs owner manual for that.
Normally you enter the BIOS setup screen at boot up by pressing a certain key as soon as you turn it on.

I changed the settings in the BIOS and things worked. Thanks a lot for your help. Hardware virtualization was disabled in my BIOS setting earlier. Ubuntu works like a charm now
