Is it possable to back up the "virtual Disk" file which I believe IS Virtual Boxes "Data Center" if you will, and restore it later due to say a file corruption situation? I'm running the latest version as of this post (4.2.0 r80737)

Any ideas guys? I've searched the board I have not found a solution.

Sure. Backup the entire guest folder where everything is stored since version 4.*
