I am a newbie to virtualbox, i have seen the tutorials regarding creating a new virtual OS for virtual box, i have installed the latest version of virtual box, it was virtualbox 4.2.2 if i remember it correctly. now, what my problem is the setup. i have created a new vm profile, i have configured everything. I have mapped the empty cd/dvd disk to my dvd drive. I have a windows 8 RTM image, a windows 8 CR DVD , i have tried many permutations and combinations, but nothing has worked out so far. it just doesnt boot from the image or the dvd. i get the fatal error everytime.

I really need some help regarding what to do to make it working. please let me know what i am doing wrong.

You're not explaining exactly what you were doing and exactly what error(s) you got. Which means no one can help you.

okay, tell me what I need to mention here. I will gather all the required information. I am providing the steps which I have followed so far.

I have created a new vm profile.

General
Basic Configuration set to Microsoft Windows; Version: Windows 8 ( 64 bit)

System
MotherBoard; RAM : 1024 MB, Chipset: ICH9, Extended feature 1 and 4 selected (I/O APIC and absolute pointing).
Processor: default; Acceleration: Vtx and nested paging checked

Display
Video Memory set to 128MB, 2D and 3D acceleration checked

Storage
IDE Controller: (type: PIIX4)
VHD drive: 25 GB fixed
cd/dvd drive ( mapped to my physical dvd drive)

Rest of the things default.

I checked the show log option, in that the first log tab, i did not find any word saying error... so unable to find what to search for. Please let me know what i need to search to find the cause.

Now for installation, I have a Windows 8 RTM ISO which I used few months back to install it in my system, I have a Windows 8 CR DVD which i had used in january, I have a windows 7 dvd which I have used many times. I have tried each of this with virtual drive or the physical drive and mapped to the new profile, but everytime it shows boot medium not found or unable to read boot information.

Still a few days to go. Until then please see the the existing Windows 8 (guest) thread. And ps. once Win8 is officially released, only the official release will be supported (not some old ISO you've had for months).
