Loading a virtual machine under the following circumstances:

I am new to using USB SATA Hard Drive Enclosures and working with Virtual Box.

I am successfully able to boot from the USB SATA Hard Drive Enclosure and load the host operating system (which is CentOS 6.3) , however I cannot run a virtual box virtual machine. The guest operating system on the virtual machine that I am trying to load is Ubuntu Server 12.04.

When I try to load the virtual machine I get the boot menu but when I choose any option on the boot menu and wait for the Virtual Machine to load I get a blank black screen.

What could be causing this? What are possible solutions to get my Virtual Machine up and running?
