"Check for updates" not working

Virtualbox is not automatically notifying me that new updates are available, nor does "Help > Check for updates..." report that a new update is available. I am currently running 4.2.0, with 4.2.2 being the latest. Just wondering if this is a known issue or something specific to my install?

I am seeing this as well on my Windows 7 host, not sure if it is an actual bug or if there are still broken links causing the latest version to not be picked up.

This is behaving as designed. The automatic update notifier will only kick in when we decide that the latest update solves more problems than it causes... which unfortunately does not appear to be the case with 4.2.2.

Then it is not designed well. If there's an update, "check for updates" should notify it, whether it fixes something or not. Making a seemingly arbitrary decision on whether or not to update the notifier is all the more confusing. What's more, when reporting bugs, we get yelled at for not having the latest version, even though the notifier says we do have the "latest" version.

If there is a specific reason not to install an update, then it is not worth releasing it in the first place.
