I happened to swing by the site manually, and noticed that the latest version is 4.2.

I was running 4.1.23r80870, and even a manual update check yielded no updates.

Downloading and installing it manually was no trouble, but I'd prefer to have had notice. Is this behavior unique to me? Intended?

Intended. The upgrade notifier will probably be engaged once the next 4.2 update is out.
