Win 7 Host - Ubuntu Server Guest

Post by bynw »

Hi.

I have a Ubuntu server 64 bit Guest on a Windows 7 host.

I have enabled Bridged networking to the server can face the outside world and by accessed. This has been tested and works well. However, I am not able to SSH into the Ubuntu server. OpenSSH server is installed and verified having port 22 open and listening to connections.

When attempting to connect from the host computer or other computers the connection time's out.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you.

First thing I thought of, only has the Windows Firewall. And I disabled it. Still get the connection time out message.

That's about the only thing short of the ssh settings. use wireshark to see where and why it fails.

Hmm. I attempted to ping the vm as well and that timed out as well at just attempting to telnet to port 22.

It appears that only port 80 is open on the server guest vm.

Would wireshark need to be installed on the guest or on the host machine? The guest machine is the server install of Ubuntu so there is no GUI available.

the host would work but you already know the answer to your problem. now you need to fix the guest since you say the firewall is off.

I'm at a loss on what in the guest would be causing the ports to be blocked.
