Mouse issues in software

VB noob here - I have Windows 7 64 bit host, with Windows XP SP3 guest. The mouse works normally withing the desktop of the guest, and I installed an old game (Clue). The game comes up fine, but when you get to the menu, the mouse jerks around so badly, that it's unusable, and I can't get it to select what I want to select. I tried slowing down the mouse in Control Panel, but it had no effect in the game, just on the desktop. Is there any patch or driver that I could install on the guest to make it work, or is there a setting in VB that needs to be changed? Or am I just SOL?
