All OVA files exported as corrupted

Post by jkinghome »

I am running VB 4.1.14 on OSX 10.7.4. I run Windows XP and in the past backed up to OVA files. However, today I tried to import one of the OVA files and get a corrupt error. So I try other ones, same issue for all of them.

So, as a test I create a OVA from my current running XP disk image. Once completed, I import that test OVA. Again, I get

Code: Select all

VMDK: Compressed image is corrupted '/Users/Jason/Desktop/test-disk1.vmdk' (VERR_ZIP_CORRUPTED).
Result Code:
VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
Component:
Appliance
Interface:
IAppliance {3059cf9e-25c7-4f0b-9fa5-3c42e441670b}

Not sure why I keep getting a corrupt image, especially when I have just created a brand-new one from VB. Any ideas?

Thank you!

Since this is a repeatable problem you should raise a BugTracker ticket for it, linking to this discussion. BugTracker is a separate system, although you can use the same OSSO login you use here. On first login you'll be asked to choose a nickname for that site. It would make sense to use the same nickname as here.

In the meantime, if the VM was created by VirtualBox v4 or later (i.e. if it has a .vbox settings file) then the easiest way to back up your VMs by simply copying the VM folder. If the VM was created by v3 or earlier (.xml settings file) then you can clone the VM first using the v4.1.0 (and later) GUI cloning function, then back up the clone. Copying the VM folder ensures that all settings are retained, nothing is changed - this is far safer and more reliable than the legacy export/import feature.
