Resize of Ubuntu shows no effect

Hi,

in order to resize my Ubuntu VirtualBox on Windows XP (VirtualBox version 4.2.0) I used the command like this:

VBoxManage modifyhd C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\XXX\VirtualBox VMs\Ubuntu\Ubuntu.vdi –resize 20000

this seem to have worked, as

Settings->Storange->SATA-Controller->Ubuntu.vdi 

now shows a Virtual Size of 19.53 GB with the Actual size of 4.37 GB. But after a reboot the Ubuntu df command shows me that 100% of 4 GB is full. So where are the remaining 15GB? Do I need to do something else so Ubuntu "sees" the additional space?

Hi,

thanks for this link, I am currently downloading the "GParted" iso file. If I am able to "mount it to the guests virtual CD and boot the guest", I do not quite understand what this sentence mean:

"From here you can expand the primary partition to use the new space."

Can you explain what exactly I need to do?

P.S. To mount the GParted.iso to the guest virtual CD, I would go to Settings->Storage and try to add this iso to the IDE Controller, under which the VBoxGuestAdditions.iso is added. I this the correct way to do? Then I just start the VirtualBox?

SOLUTION:

This is a working solution when the VirtualBox is important to work with:

Create a new VirtualBox from scratch with more space.
