VirtualBox Error message!!!

Post by Kwon »

Dear Experts!!

I am using VirtualBox for my work.

I did use it well any problem recently. but I could not operate VB after updating to V4.1.22.

Whenever I started to operate VB an error message appeare as below.

"The VirtualBox kernel modules do not match this version of VirtualBox.
The installation of VirtualBox was apparently not successful.
Please try completely uninstalling and reinstalling VirtualBox"

" The virtual machine "DeltaV_1" has terminated unexpectedly during startup"

So, I did carry out uninstalling and reinstalling several times, but I did'n solve it.

Originally version of VB was V4.0.4 r70112. I can't understand why it do not work for a reason update.
Please inform me if you have a solution.

Thanks.

Windows Host? Sure?

Do you have a linux host? If yes, whih distribution?

(Host is iron, guest is the os running in vbox).

Hey,

I have the same problem. I updated my Virtualbox to version 4.2.4.

My host is Windows 7 64 Bit, and the guest is Arch (Linux). Every time I try to run the session I get the following two errors in succession:-
The VirtualBox kernel modules do not match this version of VirtualBox. The Installation of VirtualBox was apparently not successful. Please try completely uninstalling and reinstalling VirtualBox.
Followed by: -
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine arch.

The virtual machine 'arch' has terminated unexpectedly during startup.

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Machine
Interface: IMachine {22781af3-1c96-4126-9edf-67a020e0e858}

I have uninstalled and reinstalled vbox multiple times. I used 'your uninstaller'. I uninstalled in safe mode to but still no luck.

Please help. I've been trying forever to get this to work.

Thanks

Was/is the guest suspended when you updated?

Saved state. Where it will boot faster.

Click on the guest once and then see if the discard icon is active (not greyed). If it is click it and discard the saved state and see if it will boot.

If not then you are going to need to explain this a lot better. The error message you are showing I have only seen on a Linux host not Windows.

oo suspended .. sorry about that.

No, it's not suspended. And the discard saved state is greyed out. I've read all on the net too about linux having the same problem but not windows. Um, well I have installed it in my E drive, not my root C drive because I wanted to save space on the C drive. What more information could I give?

Thanks

I honestly have no idea. Like I said I have never seen this error on a Windows host and don't even know where to tell you to start looking. If you have uninstalled, rebooted, & installed again and it didn't fix the issue than your next step should be to open a ticket at bugtracker

K. I'll open a ticket. I''ll search my computer and see if there might be some left over files from a old vbox installation left over. Hopefully I'll get it to work. I'll report back here when I get some progress.

Thanks again for your help.

Hey guys, just to let you know, its working with portable version of VirtualBox. I'm still trying to figure out why it isn't working on the normal installed version.

alright... so this is what solved it for me.

It wasn't working initially and kept giving me the error posted above. I started the session using the portable version of vbox. Installed arch and desktop environment.

I reinstalled virtual box and started the session and it worked. I believe the problem wasn't in the virtual box installation but rather the virtual hard disk/image properties. Starting it with the portable version fixed it i guess. It work now though in the normal vbox installation 4.2.4
