Win7 Host, Ubuntu Guest - NAT Networking Issue

So, I'm having a networking issue which is unfamiliar to me. I've never really had networking issues back home, either on wired or wireless, home or work networks. I'm overseas at the moment however and have spent the last couple of hours trying to resolve this issue.

In my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS guest (Win7 Host), some things are able to see the internet fine... for example, Chrome can access the web just fine and the Update Manager works too. However, from a terminal, I can ping the my host machine by IP, I can ping the DNS by IP, but I can't ping anything else in the outside world!?!?

At the bottom of this message, I'm pasting the ipconfig for the host and ifconfig for the guest. As mentioned above I can ping both 10.21.12.{1,244}, the DNS and HOST IP addresses. For example:
farrell@MyVM:~$ ping 10.21.12.244
PING 10.21.12.244 (10.21.12.244) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 10.21.12.244: icmp_req=1 ttl=128 time=2.41 ms
64 bytes from 10.21.12.244: icmp_req=2 ttl=128 time=1.66 ms
^C
--- 10.21.12.244 ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 2 received, 0% packet loss, time 1003ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 1.660/2.038/2.417/0.381 ms
However, I can't ping google for example (the space in .c om isn't really there):
farrell@MyVm:~$ ping google.c om
PING google.c om (173.194.35.8 ) 56(84) bytes of data.
^C
--- google.c om ping statistics ---
6 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 5026ms
I've tried various things including running dhclient, but it seems like the dns server is set correctly.
farrell@MyVM:~$ sudo dhclient
RTNETLINK answers: File exists
farrell@MyVM:~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 10.21.12.1
nameserver 127.0.0.1
search cyberbox.it
Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? I'm happy to provide any additional info that could be helpful.

Many Thanks!!
Ryan

Also, if it's helpful... here's what I'm seeing for nslookup:
farrell@MyVM:~$ nslookup -type=ns .
Server: 10.21.12.1
Address:	10.21.12.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
.	nameserver = e.root-servers.n et.

Thanks to anyone who looked at this issue. I was talking to a friend who's staying at another hotel nearby and it turns out that their routers are simply dropping any packets sent to all but a white-listed set of ports (e.g. 80, 443). I was able to spin up an EC2 node running sshd on port 80... golden :).

All set now, thanks again to anyone who took the time to check this out.
