PC Game won't play in XP

Post by Alessio5 »

Hi guys,

I've installed Windows XP with Virtual Box on my Mac, and installed a pc game from two disks (installation claims to be fine) and when I try and play the game it says 'Please insert the correct game disk and restart the application', even when the disk is in. I've tried re-installing twice, and now the game just freezes when I launch it. Why isn't it working? The game is Empires: Dawn of the Modern World and the RAM allowance is 4x the minimum requirement.

Try enabling "passthrough" in the vbox guest settings for cd/dvd. Probably the game is copy protected.

Passthrough was already selected by the looks of things. Someone mentioned something to me about making an ISO or something? Sorry, don't know that much about this stuff.

Basic question: you did attach the dvd drive to the virtual machine, yes?
ISO disk image: you attach the image to the virtual machine as if it is the dvd.
To make ISO, make .cdr image (DVD/CD master) via disk utility then rename to .iso

Edited to add DVD/CD master - the pull-down choice
