VB 4.2 does not find any USB devices

I've just installed VB on a brandnew Win7 64 bit PC with a Core⢠i7-3930K CPU on a Gigabyte X79-UD3 motherboard. However, VB does not seem able to find any of the attached USB devices; the + menu in the USB section claims "no devices available". I've enabled everything (USB, EHCI, tried both with and without the USB 2.0 extension pack). I've done several of these installs on other PCs, and have never seen this behavior. In particular I know that the SafeNet HASP key should show up (it does on another Win7 64bit PC).
I know it's not much to go on, but does anyone have any ideas?

Why would you try without the extension pack? VBox has no USB2 support without it. Likewise USB and EHCI must be enabled in the VM settings. And of course the device you wish to add a filter for must be plugged into a USB2 port on the host at the time.
If you still have problems then I would install VirtualBox again on that PC, and make sure you do not exclude the USB filter drivers (separate from the extension pack).
If you still have problems with post the VM log file.

As stated, USB and EHCI support is enabled. I tried without USB2 support since USB1 would suffice for me if that worked. I've also tried re-installing VB and I've made sure the filter drivers are installed. I don't really see how a VM log would help since its not a VM specific problem? The devices don't show up in VirtualBOX at all.
