Virtualbox is slow on windows 7 64bit?

Post by vampirictorch »

Hello, I do not know the specs of my personal computer off hand as I am at work, however I do know it is a duel core, 4tb Space, and 64bit windows 7 as well as only 2gb ram at this time, now with that said to get to the issue.

I am trying to install the same windows 7x64 bit on my virtual drive which previously had windows xp on it, I am trying to upgrade it to use more functions/freedom of my 3 programs I use on it.

1.) Photoshop
2.) Notepad++
3.) Visual Basic Express (Free personal version)

I keep those on the at home virtual box to avoid pc clutter, and to keep everything much more organized on the computer, I do however have "Guest additions" Installed so i can link files to a folder for easy switching between computers, as the drag & drop function has never worked on my pc which I never thought to be a big deal, I hope this is just a simple settings display, or maby too little ram Allocated to the new virtual box, let me know some opinions for when I get home and thanks for reading.

SUMMING IT UP:
I noticed I didn't Sum it up, essentially I am lagging on the windows 7 64bit when I am at home on the same pc the virtualbox is on, and I am wandering why the computer is lagging so bad? takes 5 minutes just to open visual basic.

I would not look beyond the 2G total RAM. That boils down to 1G each for host and guest - about the absolute minimum to run Win 7 and certainly nowhere near enough for Photoshop on either of them.

Microsoft gives the minimum RAM requirement for Win7 64bit as 2GB, so obviously that creates a problem if you want to run two copies at the same time.

Sounds like you have a pretty top notch XP 32bit host there. Pity it came with Win7 x64 on it!
