Hi. i am encountering a problem with virtualbox

i have the latest version, and the latest tails.iso

i am using running osx 10.8.1

when i press start, i get an error message: Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_SUPLIB_WORLD_WRITABLE).

The details of the error say..

Result code: NS ERROR FAILURE (0X80004005)
Componenet: Console
Interface: IConsole {db7ab4ca-2a3f-4183-9243-c1208da92392}

this has only just started happening. its been fine until today

i downloaded tails and VB again, and the problem persists.

can anyone be so kind as to help me out here? i am fairly new to this, and not at all fluent in terminology, so it would be great if someone could talk me through this

Thank you

Just encountered this error for the first time too. I'm wondering if this is related to my Maverick upgrade, which hopefully would be fixed in a future upgrade.

I'm getting a similar error, but on OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. I'm trying to use Virtualbox 4.3.0 r89960. The computer is a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo Macbook with 4GB of RAM. Model Identifier is MacBook4,1 if that's useful.

Here is the message:

Code: Select all

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Ubuntu 32-bit.

The VM session was aborted.

Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: SessionMachine
Interface: ISession {12f4dcdb-12b2-4ec1-b7cd-ddd9f6c5bf4d}
I get this when trying to start 64-bit and 32-bit VMs. I've tried mounting Windows 7 ISOs and Ubuntu 12.04.3 ISOs with no success. So far, no Virtualbox VM has run on this computer.

Edit: I have tried to repair my disk permissions. Also, as far as I understand, the VM must be running with the same kernel bitsize as the host kernel. To that end, I have tried to start the computer in 32-bit and 64-bit mode using both of the methods on this page: support DOT apple DOT com/kb/HT3773 (I'm too new to post urls yet). Oddly though, the computer never seems to run with the 64-bit kernel. I've been planning on reinstalling Snow Leopard soon. Perhaps a reinstall would take care of this?

Edit 2: Woops, looks like (0x80004005) is a generic error. Maybe I should move my problem to a new thread? It might not be relevant to OP's problem.
