How to enable Standby/Hibernation in a virtual guest OS?

I'm a developer and I'm using VirtualBox to test our software in VM. The software requires the presence of sleep mode (stand-by in Windows XP) which seems to be disabled by default. I just tried it in a virtual Windows 7 and Windows XP SP3.
Any idea how to enable it?
