USB transfer errors, faulty copies&syncs incl. iTunes->iPod

Post by Nat »

Host Kubuntu 12.04 (64bit) running VirtualBox 4.2.0r80737 (incl. Ext-Pack) with Guest Windows 7, 64 bit (incl. Guest Add.)

I keep running into what I can only describe as 'transcription-errors', resulting in faulty file-transfers/copied files, when I transfer, copy,and/or sync files onto any one of my USB drives, including my iPod Nano Touch (6th gen).

These errors are NOT RANDOM, but consistently REPRODUCIBLE, and NOT DEPENDENT on third party programs (i.e. iTunes).

If I copy a small test file (50000 lines of 'Hello') from the Win-Guest to a recognized and mounted USB device, such as the iPod or a USB thumb drive, the copied file is corrupted.

If I mount the same USB device instead as a 'Shared Folder', the transfer works fine, and the copied file is identical to the original.

Moreover, if the USB-device-copy route is repeated, the resulting errors are repeated, i.e. the corrupted files are identical.

At this point, I'm totally stuck. It appears as though the problem originates with VirtualBox's USB link.

Any ideas ... anyone .... please ...
