Problems Win7 USB Serial (FTDI) and USB Software Dongle

Post by hulster »

Hello,

read through a lot of threads for USB Problems, but nothing solved my issues. Both devices are running fine with Parallels, in virtual maschine I only get "busy with a previous request".

1. MacOSX 10.7.4

2. VB 4.2.0 with USB extension and guest tools installed

3. Filters tried several, actually an empty filter is set.

4. Settings - Ports - USB, both "USB" and "USB 2.0" enabled (which confirms extension pack installed as well.

5. Both devices shown in VBs USB list. "Mouse over" on the devices shows first time busy. When I click on the device it changes to "captured". Still status "No devices attached". Second click on devices I get the error message.

6. Devices disconnected. Start up VB, next start VM and connect USB device after VM fully launched.

7. Both USB devices shown properly in Macs Systerm Information. This type of USB devices can't be "ejected" to disconnect them actively from Mac.

Any idea?

Thx in advance

Use Google to search ""busy with a previous request" site:forums.virtualbox.org". It has all been discussed many, many times.

That's is what I did already and why I listed all the points in my first post to show that I did. Most comments to this topic are related to memory sticks. So I further stated the types of usb devices. I looks somehow partially it works, because I got the state captured. I can't test to "eject" this device as OSX does not give you an option to eject USB devices in general. So I have really no clue, what to do else and would really appreciate some hints or a clear statement VB is not able to.

I too have spent many hours on this exact same problem. I have tried every possible solution I can think of including:

Turning on Serial Port 1 and mapping it to a host device of /dev/tty.UC-232A (my device's name) (locks up VirtualBox during startup requiring a force-quit)
Tried it without turning on Serial Port 1 and just trying to install driver in Windows as COM1 or COM3.
Tried it without the Mac driver for the device installed.
Plug-n-play in windows never pops up when the device is plugged in.
Have tried every combination of USB mapping through settings.

At this point, my conclusion is that it just flat won't work. Disappointing, as not having the ability to use a DB9 serial port pretty much makes VirtualBox useless for me.

If anyone has gotten it to work, I'm all ears.

For some USB devices, in the USB filter leaving the Revision field blank/empty works

One of the tips was to keep the filter empty in general, so all fields. So I guess this would include your suggestion, right?

Check that it's not bug #7462 - more than one guest processor will kill USB.
