Guest: Windows XP SP3
VirtualBox: 4.2.1
In host I have shared an external USB drive (ie System Preferences, Sharing). SMB is being used for sharing files and folders.
In the guest if I use shared folders (ie Devices/Shared Folders) I can add the external USB drive and then, after sharing, I can see the contents of the USB drive (either by \\vboxsvr\drive or by mapping that share to a drive letter).
However, if I try to access the external USB drive via the IP address or the Mac Air name (eg \\192.168.1.35 or \\Macbookair) I cannot. What I mean is if I enter either \§192.168.1.35 or \\Macbookair in Windows explorer I can see a list of shared folders including the USB external drive. But when I try to open the USB external drive I receive an error message:
(This problem also occurs with Truecrypt mount drive folders/drives which are shared in Apple Mac. The external drive and these folders are formatted in FAT.)An error occurred reading folder:
The parameter is incorrect. (87)
However, internal folders to the Apple Air open without problem (eg Dropbox, Documents etc) and also opening without problem is another external USB drive (which is formatted in Apple own disk format).
The reason I would like to access the drive other than the VirtualBox shared folders feature is that I have Windows program which does not recognise or work with it.
Any help with this problem would be very gratefully received.
