Can't use/see DVD on host computer when running VB

Post by Victer »

I've got a mac 3.4 GHz i7 running 10.7.4

running VB 4.2.0 with Windows XP

When I insert a DVD into my drive, if VB is running the DVD shows up in windows, but not on my mac. If I close down VB, the DVD shows up immediately on my MAC. Is there a way I can set my preferences so that the DVD shows up on my mac as opposed to on my VB window?

Thanks

If it's a host drive (and not a USB drive captured by the VMs USB controller), then I don't know how VirtualBox can prevent the host seeing the CD/DVD drive contents. After all, the host has to see the drive in order for VB to get the contents from the host.

It definitely is the built in DVD drive on my mac. I suppose technically the host drive is seeing it, since it shows up on my virtual windows machine. But I see no sign of it on my host machine, and certainly can't access it until I power down my VB windows machine.

Sorry, I'm not a Mac expert - we'll have to wait for one to make a comment.

You have told VB that it has control of the built in device.
Under Devices --> CD/DVD Devices release the device
