Ubuntu guest requires NIC refresh on host wifi change

Host = Macbook Pro OSX 10.8.1
VirtualBox = 4.1.20
Guest = Ubuntu Desktop 10.04
Whenever my host machine connects to a new WiFi network, the NAT network interface on my guest machine must be re-enabled in order to work. It does not report that the connection is down in any way, but all HTTP requests / pings / etc time out until I disable and re-enable the network interface within Ubuntu (not from the Virtualbox level).
This has become a nuisance. It's especially problematic when I close and reopen my laptop and attempt to work on a site that may have a CURL request or something in the back end logic – I have to wait for whatever request is occurring in the background to time out to continue work on that page and must switch to the guest OS to refresh the NIC all the time.
