Can't assign static address using vboxnet interface

Post by redlouse »

Hi all

I've been trying to make some scenario using Windows 2008 server and vboxnet interfaces connected to the gns3, but I've got some issues. When I assigned the static ip address to the Windows interface which is tied to the vboxnet2 interface in my Virtualbox, the new address doesn't appear. It mean it does but it looks like that Windows interface is still in autoconfiguration mode and when I type ipconfig command to the console I get the link local address with default gateway assigned manually :). I know it sound crazy. Vboxnet2 interface is connected to the gns3 and then to the router which has to act as Windows server default gateway. Here is the picture of that:

and the second one here:

. This problem is not appear when I try to manually assign the ip address to the linux client instead of Windows server. If anyone has an idea why vboxnet2 does't act as supoose to I will appreciate for any sugestion.

Thanks
Adam

and here is ipconfig /all output

OK I found the solution how to disable that autoconfiguration mode.
First we have to type netsh interface ipv4 show inter

Then we have to figure out which interface it is. 13 in my example. We have to keep in mind the number
And type this command to the console: netsh interface ipv4 set interface 13 dadtransmits=0 store=persistent

After that we need to go to the services.msc and disable DHCP client service. Finally restart the server and it works now

Cute, but I'm not sure why you are posting that in a VirtualBox forum? It has nothing to do with virtualization.

I thought it is when i was looking how to resolve it. That's why I posted it. But when I found the answer I saw it's not so, but I published the answer too. You can always dump it out if you think it's not a place for it

good luck
