Downgrade from VirtualBox 4.2.0 to 4.1.22

Post by helfrw »

Hallo,

I had to downgrade from VirtualBox 4.2.0 to 4.1.22 (because VM Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 is no more running in 4.2.0). My question now: I had on all my 10 windows and 6 Linux guests (different versions of openSuSE) installed the VirtualBox Guest Addititions 4.2.0. Can I use this version of VB Guest Additions with VirtualBox 4.1.22 or have I all VMs to downgrade to Guest Additions 4.1.22 ?

You can try it for a while to see if it works, but generally speaking forwards compatibility is much harder than backwards compatibility, especially if it crosses major releases. Downgrade if you spot problems.

thank you, mpack. I tried three windows (xp, vista and 7) VMs with additions 4.2.0 on VB 4.1.22. They work so far and until now I could not see any problems, nevertheless one of them I did downgrade.
