Hello,

I'm running Linux Mint 13 x64 LTS and VM version 4.1.22 R80657. I recently upgraded to this version and I am now experiencing awful performance trying to run Win XP x86

The host is a HP workstation running dual 4 core procs at 2.66ghz with 8 gb memory 300 gb raid 5 system disk on hp raid controller
The Win XP x86 vm takes several minutes just to start, open windows navigate etc. The cpu utilization is quite high considering the machine is basically idle.
I've tried throwing more resources at it such as more cpu cores or memory with out any luck.
I've begung to reverse the post install setup processing by removing virus scanners, malware also with out much impact.

current settings are 4096 memory, 4 processors, 100% exec cap, VT-x/AMD-V, nested paging, 64 mb video, 2d + 3d accel.

Any ideas what went wrong and do I need to submit a fformal bug to Oracle?

Try cutting it to 1GB RAM, one CPU. Bring the Guest Additions up to date too.

I need more memory than 1 gb run SQL server and Visual Studioon the VM
I updated the guest add-ons and that seemed to help.
I also de fragged the drive and ran a "PC tune up utility" that also seems to have helped
Still it's slower than I'd like

It seems the more cpus I throw at a XP VM the slower it runs.
Why is this?

Since it seems to a processor quantity issue I'll stick with 1 for now.
But I'd like to be able to use more than one core in the future.

Question, would installing a newer Win OS (Vista or Win Server 2008 x64 perhaps) fix the processor issues?

thanks
