First time trying VBox.

Finally got VBox installed properly, with help from others.

I tried to install the Ubuntu 12.04 x64 version, but I kept getting this error

This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.
Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.

My Laptop has a Intel T3400 Dual core cpu and I am running Windows 7 64bit..???

Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit DOES install directly on my computer, but it will not install through VirtualBox ..

I tried installing Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit version, and it installed.
I did ALL the updates for Ubuntu. Then I started using Ubuntu and found I have no audio.

Settings shows the controller as Intel HD Audio and Host Driver is Windows DirectSound

- VirtualBox 4.2
- Windows 7 x64 - host
- Ubuntu 12.04 x32 - guest

Any Ideas why no sound?
Thanks, Anne

Sometimes in linux guest some of the mixers are down. Check this first. I dont mean the main volume control! Check it with "alsamixer" on command line. Maybe "alsamixer" must be installed before.

The T3400 does not have VT-x, hence you cannot run 64bit guests. Don't worry though, as few people actually need them.
