Inaccessible PC

Post by Luke Orford »

Hi my PC crashed and restarted whilst using Virtual Box and now every time I go to open up Virtual System is get this error message.

D:\tinderbox\win-4.1\src\VBox\Main\src-server\MachineImpl.cpp[707] (Machine::registeredInit).
Result Code:
E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component:
VirtualBox
Interface:
IVirtualBox {c28be65f-1a8f-43b4-81f1-eb60cb516e66}

The thing is the D:\ drive is my CD drive.

Could anyone help me please?

Thank you

"D:\Tinderbox\etc" indicates the source code line which generated the error, it doesn't indicate a path on your PC.

Not your fault, but I'm afraid the error message you provide is spectacularly unhelpful. A VM log file might be more useful (post as a zipped attachment please).

OK not sure if this helps some more?

Runtime error opening 'C:\Users\luke.GRANTMACDONALD\VirtualBox VMs\New XP\New XP.vbox' for reading: -102 (File not found.).

Well yes that helps - "File not found" is fairly self-explanatory.

With VirtualBox shut down, look in your VM folder ("C:\Users\luke.GRANTMACDONALD\VirtualBox VMs\New XP") for a file called "New XP.vbox-tmp" or "New XP.vbox-new". If either of those files exists then rename it to "New XP.vbox" then run VirtualBox. If neither file exists but a file called "New XP.vbox-prev" exists then try it with that.

Incidentally, if you still have Microsoft's little joke option set, where it hides the extension of registered file types, then I advise you to turn that feature off in folder options.
