32bit Host is hanging when 64bit guest is starting
32bit Host is hanging when 64bit guest is starting
Good day.
I have installed VirtualBox 4.2 on my HP Probook 6465b (AMD Dual-Core A4-3310MX, 4 GB RAM) with Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. I have enabled Virtualization support in BIOS and CPUz shows that my processor support AMD-V technology.
I have created virtual machine for 64bit guest (with enabled hardware virtualization, nested paging, IO APIC).
But when I am launching 64bit guest my host system is hanging. It occurs for Windows or Linux guest with 64bit architecture.
32bit guests work fine.
Early I have HP 6910 with Intel Core 2 DuoT9300 and this problem neve hapenned.
Had anyone similar problems?
Will be glad to help.
Thanks

Please provide the VM log, as a zipped attachment. See Minimum information needed for assistance.
Re: 32bit Host is hanging when 64bit guest is starting
I have attached the last log of problem guest.
P.S. But if my host system is hanging and I not sure that this log is significant

Re: 32bit Host is hanging when 64bit guest is starting
Two things I see:
First, you seem to have allocated a large fraction of host RAM to the guest. Does your guest actually need 1GB RAM? Set it to 512MB if not.
Second, the VM is hanging when it attempts to boot from the ISO image you have mounted. Does this ISO need to be there? Is this ISO corrupted? (i.e. does it pass an MD5 check).

1. I have reduced memory for guest to 512MB but problem is exist.mpack wrote:Two things I see:

2. I have installed many systems wit this iso. And I have tried other iso for 64bit syste, with same result.
And I have attached new log

Re: 32bit Host is hanging when 64bit guest is starting
Same as before - hangs when attempting to boot from CD-ROM. I'll wait until my previous questions on this have been answered.
Re: 32bit Host is hanging when 64bit guest is starting
First of all I want to say that I need to boot from iso, because I want to install 64bit system and iso is the installation source.
I have written this iso to DVD and tried to install on my laptop - installation started.
I have written another "problem" iso to DVD and tried to install system on my laptop - installation started too.
And I have checked md5 sum for this iso
P.S. If I select 32bit architecture on the stage for creating guest and try to install system from 64bit image I have answer from kernel (windows or linux) that processor of guest system does not support x64 architecture.
But if I select appropriate architecture on the stage for creating guest I meet error above
I think it is important thing because it means that boot process is beginning and my iso has not problem.

Re: 32bit Host is hanging when 64bit guest is starting
I would be surprised if 64bit support was an issue so early in the installation process - you don't need a 64bit setup program to install a 64bit OS - however I could be wrong.
I see nothing in the log to indicate that AMD-v was attempted, though I admit I'm more familiar with VT-x logs.

Re: 32bit Host is hanging when 64bit guest is starting
I have never said that installation process uses 64bit instructions. I mean that installator checks processor support 64bit instructions and when I used 32bit architecure for guest this check process is finished succesfully. And as I said iso-image are correct.mpack wrote:I would be surprised if 64bit support was an issue so early in the installation process - you don't need a 64bit setup program to install a 64bit OS - however I could be wrong.

Are there any ideas?
