Hi all,
I'm running VB 4.1.22r80657 on a Win7 64x host with Extension pack installed.
While setting up a new WIN7 64x guest machine (based on a converted VHD -- VDI image) I was unable to boot it and now I want to use my original WIN7 DVD to repair the boot process.
However: in the storage tab I'm unable to find the passthrough setting for my CD/DVD reader/writer on (S)ATA controller. Can someone help my out, preferably with a screenshot?
It's frustrating: everywhere in the forum I see advices like "enable passthrough in the Storage setting" and I am unable to find this...
BTW: I know I can make an ISO out of the DVD, but now or ever I want to have direct access to physical CD/DVD's
Thanks in advance
Hans Troost

Re: Passthrough for CD/DVD not found
Select the CD/DVD ROM drive in the left panel of the Storage dialog. If one is not already there then add one. Passthough will be a checkbox on the right hand side, if a CD drive is selected.
However: I suspect that you are messing up terminology and don't actually need Passthrough at all. All you need to do is associate the virtual CD drive with a host drive.
I also suggest that you read section 3.6 of the user manual.

SOLVED] Re: Passthrough for CD/DVD not found
Thanks mpack for your fast and supporting answer.
I just read - again, but probably better - section 3.6 of the manual: yes you are right (of course): passthrough only necessary for CD/DVD burning.
And: better trying all the options I found that "clicking on the CD/DVD-icon right of the device-slot field" shows the option I was looking for. This is what i did not find in the manual: , in section 3.6 is simply mentioned:
Nevertheless: thanks for your response, you triggered me to me read better and to try more in the VB gui.
Regards,
Hans

I did not see "additional options", I simply considered the CD/DVD icon as an illustrative picture, not as a clickable object. Now I know but IMHO the User Manual can be improved on points like this. For virtual CD/DVD drives, the following additional options are available:
If you select "Host drive" from the list, then the physical device of the host computer is connected to the VM, so that the guest operating system can read from and write to your physical device. This is, for instance, useful if you want to install Windows from a real installation CD. In this case, select your host drive from the drop-down list presented.
Nevertheless: thanks for your response, you triggered me to me read better and to try more in the VB gui.
