Hi:

I have a VHD file that I got from our engg. group which I need to use to create a VM. After going through the steps of the wizard, I get the following message:

Parent medium with UUID {503ed2a1-45c8-9c40-9c73-6c3a6fae50d7} of the medium 'C:\Venki\Harris\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Mode.vhd' is not found in the media registry ('C:\Users\ercot/.VirtualBox\VirtualBox.xml').

I have researched this issue all over the place, but suggestion for renaming the vbox file or the vdi file does not work for me as I don't have these file. Just a VHD file. Please help!!!

The error states that the vhd is just a part (a snapshots), it's not the whole disk.

Do you know what was used with this vhd ?
Is it virtualbox or "Windows Xp Mode" (or virtual pc) ?

Obviously someone has given him a Win7 XP Mode VHD not realizing that Win7 defaults to creating linked clones of a template XP VM.

And just to save a bit of time: as I understand it, running that VM on any other host PC will cause licensing and hence activation problems, though it may be possible to deal with that by re-keying, if you have another valid XP Pro retail license. However, Microsoft are the people to approach to get their exact licensing conditions.
