Shared Folder problem

Ladies and Gents,
I have a problem. I have an web application running within a Virtual Box (4.1.14). It has need to interact with a shared drive outside the box, which it was sucessfully doing before. Then sometime in the process of upgrading after 4.0, the share stopped working. Within the Virtualbox I can see and intereact with the share but the application has lost the ability. Was there some funtimental change of how shared folders are referenced after 4.0?
