shared folder very slow on linux guest

I got vbox 4.22 (with guest extension) on windows host running ubuntu 12 linux guest.
I noticed that shares via vboxfs are more then 10 times slower than network share to the same host folder.
I did a bench mark for vboxfs I'm getting 8MB /sec read access, for the same folder shared via cifs I'm getting 100 MB/sec, on the VM partition I got 130 MB/sec
I wonder if there is something that can make vbox share go faster?
