Kubuntu 11.10 x64 slow to open all applications

Hello all,

I am quite a fan of virtualbox. there are a few issues here and there, but overall it is a great VM application. I am experiencing an issue when I upgrade Kubuntu 11.10. Here are the steps to reproduce my problem, dont know if they will work for everyone else:

1. Download Kubuntu 11.10 x64 ISO
2. Create new virtual machine (4GB ram, 4 processors, 128mb video, 50GB expanding .vdi hard disk, bridged network adapter to my wireless)
My host machine is a laptop Core i7, 8GB ram. (Its a Levnovo W510)
3. Install Kubuntu on the VM
4. Launch Konquerer, Dolphin, etc. notice the responsiveness in the system. Applications launch quickly.
4. sudo apt-get update
5. sudo apt-get upgrade
6. reboot
7. Now relaunch those applications from before. For me, they take 10's of seconds to load and sometime dont load at all. It is as if the system is under a heavy disk or cpu load and is just sluggish.

Anyone know what could be causing this or how do debug this issue?
