Un-Able to Understand

Post by Sudhir Nune »

HI All,

I am pretty to the world of Unix / Solaris on Virtual Box.

My Laptop is Configured:

1. Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit)
2. Processor: T6400 Intel
3. Ram: 4 GB
4. HDD: 300 GB

When I download the Virtual Box from oracle site, I have only one link Saying windows 32 \ 64 bit:.......

I downloaded and installed the same, when i read the forums it says you need to install 64 bit Virtual box for installing Solaris.

Please need help to understand how do i get 64 Bit virtual box installed ??????

First, yours is a Windows (7) host, not a Solaris host, so I have moved your topic to the "Windows Hosts" forum. It seems to be your goal to install 64bit Solaris as a guest.

Second, the VirtualBox download link says "x86/amd64", which means that a single download is suitable for both 32bit and 64bit hosts. Also, both the 32bit and 64bit versions of VirtualBox are capable of running 64bit guests, provided in both cases that your host supports the VT-x feature. The latter feature must be available in your hosts CPU, it must be enabled in your hosts BIOS, and it must be selected in the VM settings. You will also (of course) require the Solaris Setup CD/DVD - ideally as an ISO image, but a physical CD can be used as well.

Thanks a lot.

To recollect what needed:

1. Check the Processor Supports VT-X
2. Run the Solaris Installation from CD instead as ISO

Thanks a lot.
