Turn Clipboard sharing on/off without restarting VM?

Post by Bubba »

Hi,

Can I disable clipboard sharing at runtime between Windows host and Windows guest?

On my Windows guest I am running some network software which requires contant connection, so if I "pause" the virtual machine the connection would soon get lost and it would take long for a re-establishing.

On the other hand, I frequently need to trun "clipboard sharing" off because I don't want the guest to know what I am copying/pasting on the host, since I have no true knowledge of the privacy/security aspect of the network software running on the guest.

I then face a dilemma:
  • if I pause (or even close) the VM, I will lose the connection and it would require long to re-establish
if I don't pause the VM, the VM would see my clipboard content.
Could someone tell me if clipboard sharing can be turned on/off when the VM is still running?

According to VirtualBox 4.2's user manual (which is currently in beta and should be released soon) there's now a "shared clipboard" menu option on the devices menu that turns the shared clipboard on/off while the VM is running.
