Trying to get LPT to USB adapter working

I want to get this old music game called Quest for Fame working. The game uses parallel port with a virtual pick called VPick. I don't have parallel port on my computer but I bought a LPT to USB adapter.

So, I connected the VPick to the adapter and the adapter to the USB port on my computer. Windows 7 (my host system) recognizes the device but my guest system Windows 95 don't seem to find it.

I've tried installing the game but it says it can't find the VPick on any LPT port. Do I have to have a LPT port on my computer in order for the guest system to recognize it?

Can anyone help me out? I'm a total newbie with VM's. I downloaded the 4.2 RC4 which should have support for LPT.

Real parallel ports, not emulated over USB.

What you'd need here is a Windows 95 driver for your USB to LPT adapter and assign the USB device to the guest. Maybe that would work and maybe it wouldn't.

Without knowing how the device works, I can only suggest that you check your documentation as to how (if at all) compatibility is provided for old software.

IMHO, USB-LPT adapters should really be thought of as printer repeaters. I've never heard of them being useful for anything except printers (and probably not all of those).

Okay I have a LPT port on my computer now. But once again, how do I set it up on Virtualbox so I could use the VPick?

Have a look in the beta discussion area, I'm pretty sure there was at least one discussion there about how to use it, e.g. here. I haven't used it yet myself, so I can't add to anything you can find there.
