USB filtering issue XP

Post by sebelbrandt »

Hi there,

Quite new to all this so appreciate any help....

I'm running VBox v4.1.8 r75467 (can't get newer versions to install corectly)
Host is OSX 10.6.8 On Macbook Pro 4GB RAM
Guest is Windows XP Professional - 192MB RAM (default assign)
Log Attached......

The problem I'm having is I can't get the guest to see any usb devices I'm filtering - I have had usb filtering working without fault on other guest installs in the past, but this one just isn't happening.

The filtering appears to be 50% working, as the device disappears from the host OS's control when the guest runs (and returns when the guest is shut down), but the device never appears for use in the guest OS, and the light on the usb device itself switches off when it's being filtered. I've tried setting up the filtering by selecting the specific device that's plugged in, and also setting up generic filters for the ports themselves (this is how I've had my filtering set up when it's worked on other guests). I've tried with multiple usb devices and multiple usb ports, but the same behaviour......

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Timothy

version 4.1.22 contains major improvements in USB handling for OS X.
If you stay with your installed version, you will never be satisfied
Take the time, resources and energy to install 4.1.22 or successors
Refer to viewtopic.php?f=8&t=49656

Having install problems? Ask!
Remember that upgrading VBox does not destroy the virtual machines.

Okay! Thanks, after following some instructions, managed to get 4.1.22 installed, with extensions pack, and guest additions....

BUT! Still same situation with USB filtering - any clues?

Thanks.

What is the USB device?

If you have failed to get the device seen by XP, try a 'blank' (empty) filter and remember that OS X must release the device (I do an Eject from the
Desktop). Then start/boot XP (I do not recommend saved state personally) and go the Device Manager. The next steps depend on what Device Manager reports for the device.
Some users have reported the need to uninstall USB devices; refer to viewtopic.php?f=8&t=47237

The blank filter is for testing only - you need to define a specific one ultimately for the device
